Partial list of questions from the Techcast today, I will try to answer some of these over the next few days:

Q: Can we install obiee in a separate oc4j and not in the home oc4j of OASf when we use advanced install of OBIEE?

Question: Is there a preference to use Informatica over Oracle Warehouse Builder ? Pls discuss the pros and cons (specifically for EBS)

Shyam Nath: for bi apps, there is no out of box support for owb
Shyam Nath: so you only choices are informatica or odi in future
Shyam Nath: for custom obiee development you can use OWB

Anu Putla: Do we have to do custmizations if we have multi-currencies

Kunwar-Nasar Al: QUESTION: Is DAC an Informtica tool or something created by Siebel to execute/monitor ETL mappings?

Shyam Nath: DAC came from Siebel, hence is Oracle tool. It makes the job of managing Informatica much easier. I like to call it "Informatica for Dummies"

Raymond Miller: So is Discoverer going to be around in the future?

Shyam Nath: Discoverer 11g can be downloaded from here:
http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/middleware/htdocs/111110_fmw.html

Ravi Srivastava: Thanks for the presentation Shyam. QUESTION: Where ODI (Oracle Data Integrator) comes into picture with OBIEE/OBIA now or in future ?

Shyam Nath: 7.9.5.2 is a limited availability release that bundles ODI as ETL engine with OBIA. In future ODI will become more mainstream.

Srinivas Rao: Hi BI Apps with ODI is out or still with Informatica?

saravana kumar: will there be a Migration utility to convert Discoverer report based out of an Oracle OLAP CUBE to OBIEE ?

Parag Khadye: When you install the BI Apps Modules in Stages and lets say we implemented Finance first and then HR. If we run the Full Load only on HR, how does it handle the conformed dimension?

Karthic G: Question: Is there a preference to use Informatica over Oracle Warehouse Builder ? Pls discuss the pros and cons (specifically for EBS) and also any input on Warehouse adapters for the Project Analytics apps

Shyam Nath: In 7.9.6 ETL adapters for Project Analytics are available with Informatica for EBS.

Wendy Dorsey: Can I get a copy of your slides?

saravana kumar: Will there be a Migration utility to convert Discoverer report based out of an Oracle OLAP CUBE in upcoming OBIEE11g ?

Shyam Nath: there is a document describing the metrics in business terms
Shyam Nath: its downloadable from Metalink3 or support.oracle.com

Dan Vlamis: You can migrate the EUL to an OBIEE RPD, but I don't think the reports themselves migrate.

Karthic G: Question: Is there a preference to use Informatica over Oracle Warehouse Builder ? Pls discuss the pros and cons (specifically for EBS) and also any input on Warehouse adapters for the Project Analytics apps

Shyam Nath: currently the EUL migration is useful for relational star schema

saravana kumar: Vlamis , Oracle Released a View Generator utility , will that be useful here

R Vemuri: which is the best documentation for understanding what metrics/reports/analytics that can be communicated with business?

Dan Vlamis: There are plans in the whole OLAP / OBIEE integration in OBIEE 11g.

saravana kumar: but we to model the entire repository and generate th reports

Shyam Nath: Saravana , your question can be best answered by Mike Durran, who is the PM for the conversion tool

Karthic G: can you pls point me to the Informatica support for OBIEE

More Q&A:

1) Are there any initiatives to make EBS community to adopt to OBIEE bases BI?
You will see increasingly Oracle is selling OBIA / EPM with EBS (new or upgrades), likewise functionally new apps are coming out like Project analytics for EBS is new.

2) What are the other dependable tools available in the market apart from presented one? If yes, are there any comparisons available?

SAP customers have BW, likewise PSFT/JDE had EPM which is an older similar offering. JDE also has Plant Manager Dashboards similar to DBI. Neotix id similar to DBI.

3) Are there any standard evaluation spec/criteria for tools such as OBIEEE? (eg BI/ETL tools have some criteria for evaluations, but as OBIEE tools encapsulate DB, ETL and BI, how does we evaluate?)
I guess OBIEE, Cognos and Business Objects compete head to head as BI platforms, However, for Oracle Apps, OBIA is the best option (in some case PSFT EPM may be considered)

4) After adopting into OBIEE, how do customers know potential dissaponitments of expectation/deliverables early on?
The learning curve can be a factor, Also pre-built functionality may not meet many of the customer needs. So a quick install and fit-gap analysis is the best way.

5) How do OBIEE accommodate industry standard version control, metadata (questionable) etc environments

I think OBIEE version control has to be managed by the user. However, Informatica has version control built in, if you enable it in repository.
