Analytics and Data Summit Mar 20-22, 2018 is Almost Here!

The Analytics and Data Summit starts next week on Tuesday, Mar 20th, 2018.  This event was formally called BIWA Summit. BIWA SIG started as IOUG SIG in 2016, and first BIWA Summit was held in 2007 in Reston, VA. Starting 2007, it moved to West Coast, to Redwood City. BIWA SIG is now an independent User Group of Oracle and is now called BIWA User Community.

Analytics and Data Summit Announces Oracle’s Andy Mendelsohn and Waqar Hasan as Keynote Speakers
Redwood Shores, CA, March 16, 2018 – BIWA User Community announced today that Oracle senior executives Andy Mendelsohn, executive vice president, Database Server Technologies and Waqar Hasan, senior vice president, Big Data Analytics will deliver the opening keynote at the 2018 Analytics and Data Summit.
The Analytics and Data Summit, formerly known as the BIWA Summit, attracts top Oracle business intelligence (BI), data warehousing, analytics, big data, and spatial and graph experts and is managed by the Oracle business intelligence, data warehousing, and analytics (BIWA) user community. As in prior years, the event includes the Oracle Spatial Summit.  The event will be held March 20–22, 2018 at the Oracle Conference Center in Redwood Shores, CA.

Gartner spends a lot of time reviewing the major Business Intelligence platform vendors and talking to the users of BI to come up with the updates in the Magic Quadrant. Here is the latest one released in Feb 2012. As you can see the notables in the Leaders Quadrant are Oracle taking the top stop in ability to execute with OBIEE and BI Applications (OBIA)  and IBM establishing itself as the visionary with Cognos and related offerings. Down the Memory Lane - BIWA SIG to BIWA Users Community to Analytics & Data Summit 2018

Let us go down the memory lane, it all started in 2006, soon after Oracle acquired Siebel . While Siebel was well known for CRM, the Siebel Analytics helped to get Oracle on the BI map. Mid-2006, was a good time to start a Special Interest Group (SIG) with focus on Data Warehousing and Business Intelligence. Same year Oracle acquired Synopsis    (Oct 2006) and then Hyperion in 2007.  The Technology-centric User Group - IOUG  facilitated the start of the DWBI SIG. DBBI SIG's first public appearance was in NYOUG 's summer and fall events in New York. Then this SIG was invited to present a session at Oracle Openworld 2006, in the Sunday User Group Day. After Oracle Openworld, Charlie Berger joined hands with this SIG, and brought along his rich experiences from the Life Science Group called OLSUG .
