Oracle Openworld (OOW) 2015 is almost here!  My day starts tomorrow where I am volunteering in JavaOne4Kids - Lego Mindstorms Programming 4 Kids and  Hands-on IoT workshop using Growbot sensors for kids 10-18 year old. My speaking sessions start from Sunday when I speak on Intelligent Cities and Communities powered by emerging field of IoT.  On Monday, I talk about Industrial Internet and Brilliant Factories at 11 am. Monday goes late for us to JavaOne Birds of Feature session at 8pm (130 + have pre-registered for it already.   Look forward to catching with my many old friends as I join my 11th OOW! Down the Memory Lane - BIWA SIG to BIWA Users Community to Analytics & Data Summit 2018

Let us go down the memory lane, it all started in 2006, soon after Oracle acquired Siebel . While Siebel was well known for CRM, the Siebel Analytics helped to get Oracle on the BI map. Mid-2006, was a good time to start a Special Interest Group (SIG) with focus on Data Warehousing and Business Intelligence. Same year Oracle acquired Synopsis    (Oct 2006) and then Hyperion in 2007.  The Technology-centric User Group - IOUG  facilitated the start of the DWBI SIG. DBBI SIG's first public appearance was in NYOUG 's summer and fall events in New York. Then this SIG was invited to present a session at Oracle Openworld 2006, in the Sunday User Group Day. After Oracle Openworld, Charlie Berger joined hands with this SIG, and brought along his rich experiences from the Life Science Group called OLSUG . Journey from Kaleidoscope to Oracle Openworld 2009

This is the week prior to Kaleidoscope and also the week when Oracle had started inviting the speakers based on the call for presentations. So let's look at what is hot this year, more from the Information Management perspective - i.e. Business Intelligence (BI), Enterprise Performance Management (EPM), Data Warehousing (DW), Enterprise Data Management or the Master Data Management (EDM/MDM) and Enterprise Content Management (ECM). In other words, IM is the catch all phrase today for BI/EPM/DW, EDM/MDM and ECM. The Sunday Symposium in Kaleidoscope has Hyperion/ EPM as one of the tracks. BI will be in the back drop. However, there are about 13 talks in the BIDW track , about half are by Oracle speakers. There are about 26 talks in Hyperion related topics , and a number of hands-on sessions.
